{"id":840,"date":"2017-03-20T15:27:28","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T22:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/messofpottage.com\/blog\/?p=840"},"modified":"2017-03-20T15:27:28","modified_gmt":"2017-03-20T22:27:28","slug":"knowing-your-why-baseball-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/messofpottage.com\/blog\/2017\/03\/20\/knowing-your-why-baseball-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Knowing Your Why, Baseball Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Church revitalization begins with knowing your <em>why<\/em>, your reason for existing, the irreducible minimum that everything else either supplements or, occasionally, is at odds with. <\/p>\n<p>If you know your <span style='text-decoration:underline;'>why<\/span>, it&#8217;s easier to figure out what you must do, what you can do without if you have to, and (sometimes) what you need to stop doing. But it&#8217;s hard, because everyone in a church already has a <em>why<\/em>, a reason they attend church, support it financially, and participate in its community and ministries. Most if not all of those <em>why<\/em>&#8216;s are good reasons, and most are roughly aligned with the <em>why<\/em>&#8216;s of the other people in their church.<\/p>\n<p>Probably. <\/p>\n<p>But most churches don&#8217;t do the hard work of figuring out their <em>why<\/em>. If it ain&#8217;t broke, why make waves, etc. What if you figure out your <em>why<\/em> and your best friends at church have a different one?<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not just churches. <a href=\"http:\/\/mlb.nbcsports.com\/2017\/03\/20\/a-guy-asked-all-30-teams-why-he-should-root-for-them-\nseven-responded\/\">Major League Baseball has the same problem<\/a>.
